2007 Democratic Rally: Steve Beshear for Governor
The Democratic Rally for Steve Beshear for Governor took place yesterday evening beginning at 6:30 at Centre Square. As we approached the entrance, we could see people were beginning to line up at the door.
Magistrate Cotton Smothers and State Auditor Crit Luallen appeared to have coordinated their attire for the evening.
As the line to gain entrance grew longer, no one seemed to mind the wait. Conversation was lively and the mood was spirited.
Here's my "Fab Four" - four of my very favorite people - my brother, Alan, my dad, Junie, my brother Joe and my husband Stephen...
City Council candidate Kate Palagi poses with her husband Roy before finding their seats inside.
The first order of business once all found their tables was a recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance...
Here, Connie Raikes seems to be making sure everyone's doing the Pledge - must be the teacher in her...
A shot of the crowd in line for the meal...
Everything was delicious - fried chicken, well-seasoned green beans, buttered potatoes, cole slaw, bread... Barry Brady and Connie Raikes fill up...
Joe Browning and Barbara May serve themselves. I'm drawing a blank on the name of the guy next to Joe - ______ Haydon from Springfield and he attends a lot of Marion County political functions.
The guest of honor filled his plate, but left it on the table to finish later as he circulated among the crowd; an estimated 400 people were in attendance.
Father Gary was on hand to lead the prayer before the meal; he's pictured here with Martha Ann Elder and Steve Beshear. I made sure to get the lights in the background, joking it might look kind of like a casino. I'm not sure that attempt of levity went over the greatest! Oh well.
Enjoying the meal and conversation....
Todd Hollenbach with City Councilman Bill Pickerill and Scottie Smith... wonder what Bill was saying to Todd?
Jay Grundy, center, is another of our candidates for Lebanon City Council. The Grundy's are related to Crit Luallen and always try to come out any time she's in town.
Karol & Philip George with Marvin Gardner were having fun...
Pam Troutman and County Clerk Karen Spalding in conversation....
Blurry shot, but can you spot four members of 24/7 here?
Tammy Smothers & Avril Thompson were all smiles....
D.H. & Jeanne Buckler digging in....
A shot from behind the speakers' table as County Attorney Joe Mattingly addresses the crowd...
More crowd shots...
Michelle Burton standing to applaud one of the speakers; Next to her is City Council candidate Denise Fogle...
Lucille & Pat Spalding with Steve Beshear...
County Judge John G. Mattingly with his wife, Janet, Phyllis Troutman, and Sherry Downs Mattingly...
Another crowd shot...
Martha Ann Elder and Steve Beshear demonstrate a four handed hand shake...
Crit Luallen showed one of the two cakes around the crowd. Over $1,000 was raised on the two cakes to benefit the local Democratic Party, thanks in part to quick thinking by the auctioneers in promoting a group effort by county officials present.
City Council candidate Denise Fogle is smiling as Terry Ward congratulates the winner of one of the cake auctions.
Steve Beshear, Pat Spalding & Joe Mattingly...
Vernon _____ & Barbara May...
Artist Chick Jama Watts-Perkins with Lee Guilfoil, who'll be joining her soon as a down-town business owner. Lee plans to relocate his interior design business by November 1st to the former Top Shop building. The first floor will be retail and his design business will occupy the top two floors.
I've decided Martha Ann Elder was one of my favorite subject of the night! Here she is with Todd Hollenbach.
I had to post this one because it just goes to show how weird some pictures turn out when you're not paying attention. Notice that County Judge John G. Mattingly's face seems to be morphing into something else because of the odd shot.
Veronica Hill, May LaMotte & George Hoerter shared a table...
Jerry Abell with Attorney General Greg Stumbo and Barry Brady... Check out Stumbo's suspenders and tie...
"No, pal, I'm Greg Stumbo"....
Another crowd shot...
"Do with me what you will - just vote for me!"
There's Martha Ann again - this time it appears she's ready to jerk a smiling Todd
Hollenbach around by his neck tie.
"Get this thing away from my body~!" Monica Pickerill is caught letting 'er Rrrrrrip as Roy Palagi
enjoys her dramatic removal of an errant campaign sticker.
I stepped from behind the camera to get a photo with Steve Beshear, Pat Spalding, & Carol and Joe Mattingly as the evening drew to a close. It was a very nice event that was enjoyable and well attended. I made sure to get my Beshear yard sign before I left and it's now in place. Vote Steve Beshear for Governor! : )
